My name is Alyssa Walden, and I currently reside in Fredericksburg, Va. I graduated Summa Cum Laude from Ferrum in Spring 2008 with a B.A. in English and a minor in journalism. While at Ferrum, I worked on The Iron Blade, serving as sports editor for a year and then editor-in-chief for two years. I was also captain of the dance team, a member of the Communications Board, and a student representative to the Boone Honors Program Steering Committee. My time at Ferrum was way too short, and I miss the community dearly.
After leaving Ferrum, I earned an M.S. in Mass Communication with a focus on multimedia journalism at Virginia Commonwealth University. I then went on to earn an M.S. in Agriculture and Life Science with a focus on education from Virginia Tech.
I am currently employed by Virginia Cooperative Extension, an educational outreach program of Virginia’s land-grant universities (Virginia Tech and Virginia State University). I work as an Extension Agent for 4-H Youth Development and deliver hands-on, research-based programs to youth between the ages of 5 and 19. Additionally, I serve as the State Program Leader, Youth, a Diversity and Inclusion Fellow for Virginia Cooperative Extension, and Vice President of Programs for the National Association of Extension 4-H Youth Development Professionals.
