The Environmental Sustainability program at Ferrum College has planned a week of events to celebrate Earth Day, which is April 22. The EnviroClub, its advisor Chekka Lash, the Health and Human Performance program, and other groups invite everyone on campus and in the community to join them for any of these activities.
- Monday, April 21 Earth Week Kickoff at Blue Ridge Institute and Museum
- Come early for a wildflower walk with Dr. Bob Pohlad at 5:30.
- 6:00 Ice Cream Social with Homestead Creamery ice cream.
- 6:00 Discussion with Paul Chapman from Franklin County Parks and Recreation.
- 6:15 Line Dancing with KAS sorority.
- 7:00-8:30 Monday Night Music Jam with Orchestra Appalchia.
- Tuesday, April 22 Big Day on the Lake
- Celebrate Earth Day on Adams Lake! Try your hand at fishing, kayaking, or canoeing with the Ag Club, or relax in a hammock.
- Free food will be provided by Metz Culinary Management.
- At 6:00 p.m., join the largest outdoor yoga gathering on campus, hosted by Morgan’s Message (wellness club), HHP Club, and Professor Lori Casey.
- Wednesday, April 23 Lego Set Giveaway and Feed the Birds
- Stop by the quad outside Franklin Hall during community hour and make pine cone bird feeders to place around campus for the birds.
- Post a picture of yourself on Instagram, tag us @FC_EnviroClub and #EarthDay, and DM us the post of you in nature for a chance to win a Bamboo or a Plum Blossom Lego set. For an extra chance to win, post a picture of yourself hanging your birdfeeder.
- Thursday, April 24 Hike to the Ferrum Farm and Craft Market
- Meet at Dyer Hall parking lot at 4 p.m. to walk with the EnviroClub and the HHP Club to the market at Ferrum Park (less than a mile away), where you can participate in a scavenger hunt and win a prize.
- We will BioBlitz (record species) on the way to and from the market.
- Friday, April 25 Arbor Day Flower Planting
- To celebrate Arbor Day and close out Earth Week, plant flowers in the arboretum between Adams Lake and Rt. 40 with EnviroClub, during community hour between 11:15 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.
