My name is Kate Anderson, Ferrum class of ’19. I grew up on a farm in Michigan where we grew our own vegetables, got eggs from our many chickens, used our three horses and single miniature donkey to mow the lawn, and dried our clothes on the clothes line. You might say I had more of a country life then people may think when they hear I grew up an hour and a half north of Detroit.
After living in Alexandria, Va., for the last two years, I realized that the rural life meant a lot to me. This is what made me fall in love with Ferrum so quickly, as well as helping me to realize my passion for the environment. Needless to say, I am majoring in Environmental Science, with a minor in Biology (and practically a Spanish minor, too).
I’ve recently (Fall17/Spring18) been working on a project to get blueberries planted on campus and at the college’s farm, and I’ve been conducting research on nematodes with my advisor. I don’t really have a plan for the future yet, but the present is going very well!
